Leading people is inspiring and motivating them to do the best they can, because you’re an example they want to follow and a person they trust. It’s the sense you give to others that you know what you’re doing and that when you don’t know, you have the confidence to find the way.
This is why, it is important to start by knowing yourself better, acknowledge your fears and mental obstacles and handle them and find the most effective and authentic way for you to think and behave as a leader. Because, to lead others, you need to lead yourself and your mindset first!
Before you put yourself in each of your team’s member shoes, put him or her in your shoes first. vInvest time to find out what’s behind your intention to achieve your professional goals. What is it that motivates you the most? Is it your need to contribute to improving, in a way, to the improvement of other people’s life, is it to feel significant and being an admirable personality for your family, friends or the people you work with? Is it maybe because for you setting professional goals and achieving them, gives you the opportunity to grow and see progress in your life?
If you find these answers for yourself and you also take the time to write down and become consciously aware of the values that are important for you to exist in your professional life, or life in general, then you will understand also how you can use them in a positive way to lead others effectively and successfully too and also you will understand better why sometimes you make choices or you behave in a way that seems to go against the vision or the goals you have as a team, or why you feel fear, instead of motivation. Because, building a good relationship with the members of your team, requires building a good relationship with yourself, first!
